Our program is free to participants and open to keiki on the spectrum 6 years of age and older. We ask that our surfers have basic swimming skills.
We match each keiki with a trauma informed surf coach, for a weekly session. We surf, stretch and build community with like minded families.
We are looking for surfers to join our team. Do you love surfing? Do you have time to share with our neurodivergent youth? Each session is 1.5 hours long and one afternoon a week.

Our program is funded by the generosity of our sponsors. This program changes the lives of children and their families. It builds community, it helps with self esteem and keeps our keiki safe. Autistic people are 6 times more likely to attempt suicide. Autistic people are 2-3 times more likely to have issues with addiction. 42% of autistic people also have an anxiety disorder. Surfing is therapeutic. It reduces stress, It builds confidence and it creates a lasting passion for the ocean. Being matched with a mentor and finding a community of other autistic people can greatly change the course of these kids like. Thank you for being a part of that. We are accepting tax deductible donations, donations of surf boards and life vests and Surf instruction. Thank you for your Kokua.

All of us know children on the spectrum and numbers are growing.
Children on the spectrum are more likely to have development delay and cognitive deficits, epilepsy, sleep disorders, developmental coordination disorder, neuropathies, Tourette syndrome, anxiety, oppositional defiant disorder, conduct disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), mood disorders, psychosis, personality disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, eating disorders, gender dysphoria, and substance abuse.
Studies have revealed that the serotonin transporter (SERT or 5-HTT) or serotonin levels were higher in autistic children
Surfing, Yoga, Mentorship and Community can help with all of these conditions. Just hearing the ocean relaxes the brain and stimulates the feel good chemicals, serotonin and dopamine. Being in the ocean reduces stress and fights depression.
Learning to surf promotes coordination which directly correlates with self regulation. Our trained surf instructors keep our keiki safe and patiently instruct to the level of each keiki. Our kids might need extra explanation, more patience and more practice. We create a safe environment where they have the safety to learn this skill that will last a lifetime.
Finding like minded and understanding people is important for all of us. Our keiki on the spectrum may not have found a community of like minded kids, part of our program is giving them the opportunity to connect with themselves, the ocean and each other.
We are dedicated to improving the lives of those in our community. Your contribution today helps us make a difference.
